What’s in a name…?

Trying to name this floral business was difficult!

It’s so important naming something as it really does the first step in defining the character of something. I felt that with our kids too!

I wanted something simple, that was reflective of an honest day’s work, something that had ties to handgrown, hometown, seasonal, and ‘of the land’ but that differentiated through its quality offering. Crucially, I wanted something that can grow with me. The Flower Farm could be the first step. A Food Forest could be next. Some sort of Consulting business could be developed next. I didn’t want to be tied down by the name.

So when one of my best mates said on the doorstep of our home ‘What about CROP?’ I knew he had hit it! It’s simple, it seems to embody that sense of homegrown and hardworking, and it’s open to growth. What’s more, it’s from my friend -  and one of CROP’s pillars for our business is collaboration through community and partnerships. Boom! I handed that over to Ian Ferguson at Friends of Design, a wicked local branding business, and he did such a great job of bringing that name to life for us through the design.

Ticks all around.

What do YOU think of the name? What’s YOUR experience been of trying to think of a name for your own business? I’d love to hear from you, even if it’s just a one liner!
